Dr. Peter Garraghan has received funding from the EPSRC to model and predict stragglers within Internet-based distributed systems.

The aim of this project is to determine the ‘perfect storm’ that causes stragglers to occur, and determine optimal conditions for avoidance. The implications of this could potentially solve a significant problem which has plagued the technology giants for over a decade in provisioning predictable application performance.

Full details of this story can be found on ComputerWeekly and the EPSRC.

The research is being funded by the EPSRC, and involves collaboration with Microsoft Research, the Science and Technology Facilities Council, and CIATEQ.
